1985 Bordeaux

1985 Bordeaux

Thursday October 2, 2008

Speaker: Harriet Lembeck, Wine Educator, President of Wine & Spirits Program

Michael Broadbent said that the 1985 vintage “seems to encapsulate all that is good about Bordeaux, the wine, the city; its weight, its balance, its character. It is certainly my favorite vintage of this splendid decade typifying claret at its best”. We tasted 12 wines including Mouton Rothschild, Latour, Cheval Blanc, Margaux, Gruaud Larose, Leoville Poyferre and more. One vote for favorite from Flight I, one vote for favorite from Flight II, and two votes for favorite from Flight III. Château Haut-Bailly was the favorite of Flight I. Château Gruaud-Larose was the favorite of Flight II, Château Cheval Blanc was the favorite of Flight III. Château Margaux placed second. Prices are median New York area prices found on the web. All the wines showed well. It was an amazing tasting of great wines.
