1986 Bordeaux

1986 Bordeaux

Tuesday February 24, 2009

Speaker: Harriet Lembeck, Wine Educator, President of Wine & Spirits Program

Rated 4 stars by Michael Broadbent, this is a left-bank vintage with the communes of St-Julien, Pauillac and St-Estèphe producing the finest wines. The best wines are typically reserved and tannic, yet possess marvellous poise, concentration and power. They are long-lived wines which require two decades or more before they are approachable and will age gracefully for many years to come.We tasted 11 wines. One vote for favorite from Flight I, two votes for favorite from Flight II, and one vote for favorite from Flight III.

Château Lafleur was the favorite of Flight I. Château Pichon Lalande was the favorite of Flight II, Château Gruaud-Larose, Château Leoville Las Cases, and Château Cos d’Estournel tied for second favorite of Flight II. Château Margaux was the favorite of Flight III. Prices are median New York area prices found on the web. Every wine showed perfect storage conditions. It was an incredible tasting of exceptional wines.
