Speaker: Harriet Lembeck, Wine Educator, President of Wine & Spirits Program
Rated 4 to 5 stars by Michael Broadbent, “This was the first major vintage since 1990, the wines are ripe, firm with considerable charm and a good future.” The New York Times Wine Talk said “Drum roll for the 1995 Bordeaux. The 1995’s are big wines, which means they are dark in color, rich in flavor and tannic, and yet, remarkably, many of them are already good to drink.”
We tasted 10 chateaux including four first growths: Latour (5 star), Lafite Rothschild (5 stars), Haut Brion (5 stars). Mouton Rothschild (5 stars), Lafleur (4 stars), Ducru Beaucaillou (4 stars), d’Yquem (4 stars). All the wines were outstanding. One vote for favorite from Flight I, One vote for favorite from Flight II, and two votes for favorite from Flight III. Château Lafleur was the favorite of Flight I. Château Lynch-Bages was the favorite of Flight II, Château Lafite-Rothschild was the favorite of Flight III. Château Haut-Brion placed second favorite of Flight III. Château d’ Yquem was loved by all. Prices are median New York area prices found on the web. Every wine showed perfect storage conditions. It was an incredible tasting of exceptional wines.
