Boutique Wineries of Australia

Boutique Wineries of Australia

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Speaker: David Forziati, Sales Manager Epicurean Wines

Epicurean Wines is leading a shift that is happening at the smaller end of the Australian wine industry. Ben Hammerschlag, Importer of Fine Australian Wine, seeks out those young talented winemakers that share his philosophy. At the high end, it is about harnessing the power of Australia without sacrificing balance, while at the lower end of the pricing spectrum; it is possible to produce wines of exceptional varietal character. We tasted 12 wines from Australia’s boutique wineries; from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and blends from different regions and styles from the 2005, 2006 and 2007 vintages.

Slipstream- Sauvignon Blanc 2007 was the favorite white. Glaetzer “Godolphin” Shiraz-Cabernet 2005 was the favorite red. Glaetzer Wallace 2005 placed second favorite red wine. Penny’s Hill Shiraz 2005 tied for third with Kaesler Shiraz “The Bogan” 2005.
