Corton Charlemagne

Corton Charlemagne

Thursday, August 17, 2006

Speaker: Harriet Lembeck, Wine Educator and author

Corton Charlemagne is considered one of the finest examples of Grand Cru white wines in the world. We tasted 13 sublime wines from 5 vintages (1996, 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2003) and 11 top producers: L Latour(2), G. Roumier(2), Joseph Drouhin, J. Prieur, Champy, Chartron et Trebuchet, Domaine Vincent Sauvestre, Bouchard, B. Ambroise, Verget, and J.M Boillot. Jean Marc Boillet 1997 was the favorite of the flight. Verget 1996 was the second favorite, Joseph Drouhin 2001 was the third favorite and Bouchard 1996 was the fourth favorite. There was only one vote difference between the top voted wine and each of the favorites. Only 3 wines received 0 or 1 vote. All the wines were in good condition and all were bought at the same auction two years ago. Prices for each wine can be found on the web.
