We tasted 10 of the finest wines from Danube, Portugal and Ribera del Duero Spain.
Prices are full markup retail price. We asked for one vote for favorite for all the wines. Chateau Burgozone Viognier 2012 was the favorite wine of Flight I .Quinta do Carapecos Espadeiro 2011 was the favorite wine of Flight II. Chateau Burgozone Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 was the favorite wine of Flight III. Briego Adalid Reserva 2009 was the favorite of Flight IV.
The cheese was provided by Cabot Cheese of Vermont. Everybody had a wonderful time.

Chateau Burgozone Chardonnay 2012
Located: Danube river Northern Bulgaria / Denomination
Region: PGI Danube Plain

Refining: 3 months in bottle
Gold color. Beautifully transparent and radiant.
A long aroma with hazelnut, butter and apricot notes, with a vanilla finish. Fleshy and rich taste with a mild note of carbon dioxide. Almond and vanilla aromas prevail in this powerful wine with a hint of timber. Balanced and a long finish.

Chateau Burgozone Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Aromas of bright lemon zest, freshly cut grass, passion fruit and grapefruit lead to flavors of kumquat, mango and lemongrass. There’s salty minerality and a touch of acidity on the finish.

Aromas of pineapple, orange zest, just-picked apricot and freesia lead the way for clean flavors of tangerine, yellow peach and freshly sliced pineapple on the palate. Its fruit forward, with great minerality. The favorite of the Flight.

Aged: 4 months. Intense rose color with red fresh fruit notes. The acidity is present but well balanced, providing this wine with the typical freshness of this grape variety. Soft and long finish. The favorite of the Flight.

Chateau Burgozone Cabernet Franc 2011
Located: Danube river Northern Bulgaria / Denomination

Aged in barrique: 8 months in French oak
Refining: min 3 months in bottle.
Intense ruby-red color with pleasant brick-colored overtones, vivid and sparkling.
The aroma is rich, satiated and multi-layered, very well harmonizing bouquet of well ripened grapes and oak and well ripened red fruit , overripe morello cherry, raspberry, dry leaves and herbs, smoke, and vanilla.
The taste is powerful, voluminously filling the mouth with pleasant, noble soft tannins, heat and sweetness. Very good length and long finish.

Deep garnet-purple color in the glass, which opens with aromas of dried cherry, saddle leather and forest floor. Flavors of pomegranate, tart cherry and Portobello mushroom, and a pleasant splash of brightness in the finish. The favorite of Flight III. |

This garnet-colored wine has aromas of blackberry and boysenberry with secondary whiffs of tobacco leaf and saddle leather. Flavors of cherry cola, black raspberry and black cherry characterize the midpalate, followed by a soft tannic finish.

Briego Tiempo Crianza 2009
Located: Ribera del Duero - Spain / Denomination
Region: Ribera del Duero
Grape varieties: Tempranillo
Aged in barrique: 14 months in French and American oak.
Refining: min 12 months in bottle.
Very intense, brilliant deep red color, with lilac tones in the rim. Well balanced, complex aromas of floral tones, black and red berry jam combined with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and cumin deriving from the elegant wood.
On the palate the wine is subtle, delicate with a warming velvety touch. Delicious mouth-filling fruit.
