Four Decades of Châteaneuf du Pape

Four Decades of Châteaneuf du Pape

Tuesday October 26, 2004

Speaker: Vivian Tramontana, CoDirector TastersGuildNY

Châteaneuf du Pape is the most famous wine of the southern Rhone. The course, pebbly soil retains the sun's heat and allows the grapes to ripen fully, yielding a wine, made from as many as 14 grape varieties, with great concentration and long life. We tasted a dozen examples. The wines were purchased at Acker Merrill's auction. The prices listed are retail prices quoted from the internet. 1990 Chateau de Beaucastel was the favorite of the tasting.
