Gosset Champagne Dinner At Aquavit
Monday October 14, 2002

Speakers: Ed McCarthy, author Champagne For Dummies and Jean-Francois Eye, Palm Bay Imports

Since this was a dinner, no votes were taken for favorite wine. Prices listed are full NYC retail. Notes are combination of the two speakers.

Wines Full Retail $
Gosset Grande Reserve NV: Served with a variety of hors d'oeuvres
A very food friendly wine with high acidity and a long finish. The wine has been aged for five years in bottle, which has added a depth of flavor. Very creamy on the palate.
$29.00
Gosset Grand Millesime, 1996. Served with traditional Gravelax.
This wine has an incredible perfumed nose with notes of flowers, warm bread and ripe apples. It is rich and luscious with great elegance and length. The flavors are exquisite and long lasting.
$41.25
Gosset Grand Rose: Served with Beef Tenderloin
I have tasted this wine on several occasions. It is sensational and is one of my favorite Champagnes.(Jonathan Levine). A serious wine that has an enticing aroma of cherries, berries and spice. In the mouth it is rich, creamy and intensely fruity. Well balanced.
$34.99
Gosset Brut Excellence: Served with dessert
Gorgeous perfume to the nose showing spice, strawberries and rose pedals. The mouth detects citrus flavors, as well as tropical fruits and vanilla. A nice match for the dessert.
$40.00
Frapin, VSOP Premier Cru Grande Champagne Cognac: Served with coffee
The average age is about six and a half years, which is about four years more than the law requires. The fresh nose shows vanilla, citrus and chocolate. In the mouth it is round and complex. The color is lighter than some cognacs as there is little, if any, caramel added for coloring.
