We tasted 10 superb wines from Alto Aldige.
Prices are medium NY area prices found on the web. We asked for one vote for favorite for Flight I, Flight II, Flight III. Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige Incrocio Manzoni Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2016 was the favorite of Flight I. Pacherhof Kerner Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC 2016 was the Favorite of Flight II. Pinot Nero (Blauburgunder) Gottardi Alto Adige DOC 2013 was the Favorite of Flight III. All the wines showed well. It was an amazing tasting of great wines.

The Monterey Jack Cheese of Cabot Cheese of Vermont was provided with the tasting.

 
Flight I: White Votes Full Retail Price $
Gaierhof Siris Trento DOC NV
100% Chardonnay grape. Bright yellow color, intense nose of apples, wild flowers and dried fruits. The palate is fresh, dry, pleasant with a long finish.

Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige Nosiola Trentino DOC 2016
100% Nosiola grape, a native grape from Trentino. Straw yellow color. Fruit and floral notes of white peach, kiwi, orange flowers on nose.
Crisp, medium structure, good acidity, and mineral finish on palate.

Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige Pinot Bianco Trentino DOC 2015
100% Pinot Bianco. Straw Yellow color. Intense and elegant nose with hints of citrus fruits, white peach, and sage. Well balanced with pleasant acidity and minerality.

Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige Incrocio Manzoni Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2016
Grape: Incrocio Manzoni is a hybrid of Riesling and Pinot Bianco developed by Professor Luigi Manzoni in the 1930’s. Straw yellow color. The nose has hints of tangerine, passion fruit, lemon meringue and blanched almond. The palate is fresh, creamy with a long finish. The Favorite of Flight I.

Pacherhof Sylvaner Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC 2016
Slavaner is an ancient Varity that has been grown in Transylvania, Central Europe. It is a cross between Traminer and the “hunnic” variety (meaning Austrian wine). It was introduced to Alto Adige in the early 18th century and is produced exclusively at Valle d”Isarco where it gained the DOC appellation in 1975.
Bright straw yellow color. Elegant nose of tropical fruit, pineapple, with exotic herbs, lemon verbena and flowers. Dry crisp full palate with pure long finish.

Pacherhof Kerner Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC 2016
The Kerner grape was bred in 1929 by August Herold by crossing Trollinger (a red variety also known as Schiava Grossa and Riesling). It was introduced to South Tyrol in the early 1970s and awarded DOC status in 1993.
Bright straw yellow color. The nose is fruity, white peach, and grapefruit with white flowers and minerals. The palate is full, juicy, lively with good acidity and with white stone fruit flavors, with a long mineral finish.
The Favorite of Flight II.

Strasserhof Riesling Valle Isarco DOC 2016
Pale yellow color. White peach, apricot and sambuco flowers on nose. Fresh and smooth on the palate with a pleasant lively acidity and a long finish.

Larcherhof St Magdalener Classico Südtirol DOC 2015
The 70 year old vine stocks of the “Larcherhof” which are used to produce the St Magdalena vine, are composed of the traditional Schiava clones of the Klein-Mitter-,Edel,- Tschaggele- and Grauvernatsch and give the St Magdalena it’s typical and special aromas. Ruby red color, fruity and floral nose with notes of violets, red currant and blackberries. It has a pleasant structure and delicate tannins on the palate.

Lechtahler Teroldego Rotaliano Trentino DOC 2015
Terildego Rotaliano was recognized in 1971 with a DOC. Intense ruby color, dark fruit nose of raspberries, blackberry earth and tobacco. The palate has notes of black cherries, black raspberries, earth and spice with medium tannins.

Pinot Nero (Blauburgunder) Gottardi Alto Adige DOC 2013
Grape: Pinot Noir. Ruby red color. Sweet red fruits, herbs and tobacco on nose. Fruity aromas of dried blackbery, cherry, figs and prune on the palate. A fine texture with silky tannins and a long polished finish. The Favoite of Flight III.
