Germany is a nation of small growers. The estate and wine maker is a key ingredient in the selection process in German wine. We tasted 10 wines selected from the greatest estates of Germany. Dr. H Thanisch, Mosel, Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler, Mosel, Georg Albrecht Schneider, Rheinhessen, Dr.Heyden, Rheinhessen and Fitz-Ritter, Pfalz Region.
Dr. Fischer Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett 2007 was the favorite Mosel Dry Style. Dr Pauly-Bergweiler Berncastler Badstube Spatlese 2008 was the favorite Mosel Spatlese. Bollig-Lehnert Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Spatlese 2008 placed a close second. George Albrecht Schneider Niersteiner Paterberg Riesling Kabinett 2009 was the favorite Kabinett from Rheinhessen. Dr Thanisch Braunberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Auslese 2005 was the favorite Aged Mosel Riesling. Everyone liked Fitz Ritter Gewurztraminer Spatlese 2009 and were very impressed with Dr Pauly-Bergweiler Urziger Wurgarten Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2001. All the cheese was provided by Cabot Cheese Vermont.
