6 Decades of Bordeaux

We tasted 14 incredible wines from 6 decades including 1959, 1961, 1962, 1966, 1979, 1988, 1991,1992,1993,1996, 1999 and 2000. Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 2000 was loved by all. Chateau Lynch-Bages 1988 was the favorite of Flight I. Chateau Haut-Brion 1993 was the favorite of Flight II. Chateau Margaux 1979 was the favorite of Flight III. Chateau Calon-Segur 1959 was the favorite of Flight IV. All the wines showed well except for Haut Brion 1966 which was oxidized.

Quiet nose, very dry, acidity, spice, moderate tannin with fruit flavors, pleasant wine.

More intense than 99, soft, some tannin, green and stemy, flavors showed better than the 99.

Chateau Lynch-Bages 1988
Perfect color, classic Bordeaux nose, leather, tannin, nice acidity, well integrated. Favorite of the flight.

Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 2000
Classic Cabernet. Only Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in blend. Leather, wood, tremendous tannin and fruit, lean and mean, drying on the plate, hint of licorice, spice, very rich, a lot of depth, very long finish. A terrific wine.

Woody, cigar box, earthy aromas, tobacco, still tannic, nice fruit, needs time. The favorite of this flight.

Cigar box, green, stemmy, quiet, chewy, very tannic, some fruit, high acidity.

Not cigar box but, rye bread, caraway on the nose. New oak, licorice, still tannic, light, no grip, or length.
