We tasted 13 wines from the wine regions of France. Gosset Brut Excellence NV Champagne was liked by all. Labouré-Roi Puligny-Montrachet 2002 was the favorite white. Château Villa Bel-Air Blanc 2003(Graves) was the second favorite white. Rémy Pannier Rosé d’Anjou 2005 (Loire Valley) was the favorite Rose’. Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas “Terres Brulées” 2002 (Northern Rhone) was the favorite red. Château De La Marque 2001 (Medoc, Bordeaux) was the second favorite red. Cognac Frapin VSOP was liked by all.

Gosset Brut Excellence NV (Champagne)
45% Pinot Noir, 42% Chardonnay and 13% Pinot Meunier. Aromas of pear and honeysuckle perfume. Beautifully balanced champagne with a long finish; very small bubbles. Liked by all.

Flight II: White Votes Full Retail Price $  
Circus Viognier from L’Ostal Cazes 2004 (Minervois, Languedoc)
100% Viognier. Fragrant medium- to full bodied with flavors of kiwi, and melon and mineral notes. Excellent balance and long finish.

Jean-Luc Colombo Cétes du Rhone “Les Figuieres” 2004 (Rhone)
Blend of 70% Viognier from 20 year old vines and 30% Roussane from 30 year old vines. 20% of the wine is matured on its lees in 2 or 3 year old barrels, with the remainder aged on its lees in vats to enhance freshness and fruit. The wine is then aged 12 months in bottle. Bouquet has floral and fruity aromas. Taste is complex, crisp and well-balanced. A full bodied wine.

Labouré-Roi Puligny-Montrachet 2002 (Burgundy)
All the Chardonnay grapes from 15 growers are harvested by hand. After malolactic, the wine is matured 10-12 months with regular stirring of lees for texture and complexity and aged in 1/3 new,1/3 one year old and 1/3 two year old french oak barrels. Floral-mineral notes in the bouquet. Elegant, subtle flavor and slightly honeyed complexity. Lovely wine. Favorite of the flight.

Château Villa Bel-Air Blanc 2003(Graves Bordeaux)
45% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Muscadelle. The nose is an enticing aroma of honey mingled with smokey nuances. Palate is harmonious and complex, suggesting white fruit and delicate caramel flavors with a lingering finish. Second favorite of the flight.

100% Chenin Blanc. Straw-gold color. Hints of honey, pear and brioche in the bouquet that linger on the palate.

Château Lamargue Rosé 2005 (Costières de Nîmes – Southern Rhone)
50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah. Crisp, dry, delicately perfumed medium-bodied rose’ redolent of fresh cherries and wild strawberries.

Rémy Pannier Rosé d’Anjou 2005 (Loire Valley)
Balanced blend of Cabernet Franc, Grolleau and Gamay. Supple, fruity and elegant. Salmon-pink color. Fresh-picked raspberries and ripe red cherries on palate. Low alcohol of 11% complements seafood, shellfish and goat’s milk cheeses. Favorite of the flight.

Ey Estates “Vigne las Collas” 2003 (Roussillon)
Single-vineyard blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre from 60-year-old vines. Slightly smokey nose of dried cherry, ripe strawberry and exotic spices. Full bodied and supple opulent fruit balanced by an underlying acidity on the palate.

Château Cordeillan Bages 2003 (Pauillac, Bordeaux)
Blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon-20% Merlot. Aged 15 months in French oak (50% new). Deep saturated purple color. Aromas of espresso, chocolate, licorice and red currant. Medium-to-full bodied with silky tannins on the palate with a long finish.Will age 10+ years.

Good red fruit. Quite fresh, with a nice tobacco note. Rich, red fruit on the palate. Dry, but good quality of fruit, medium body and some elegance. Second favorite of the flight.

Premier Cru and Grand Cru Cotes du Nuit grapes. Deep color. Bouquet rich in fruit and spice with a long, velvety finish.

Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas “Terres Brulées” 2002 (Northern Rhone)
100% Syrah from 20 year old vines. Fermented in stainless steel over 3 weeks and aged in one-year-old barrels for 18 months. Bottled unfiltered. Deep red inky color with aromas of red fruit, blackberries, black currants and hints of tobacco. Rich, concentrated and slightly spicy on palate. The favorite of the flight.

100% Grand Champagne grapes from family owned vineyards. Superb 10-12-year-old blend with no additive for color. Honey, spices, hazelnut and a touch of vanilla on the palate. Elegant and well balanced.
