This tasting of 12 wines from Cecchi and Santori provided us the experience of tasting the finest wines of Tuscany and Verona. Sartori “Vigneti di Sella” Soave Classico DOC was the favorite white. Cecchi “Spagolo” Toscana, IGT tied for favorite red with Sartori “Corte Bra” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC. All the wines showed well.

Sartori Giulietta Pinot Grigio Blush 2005 Delle Venezie, IGT
Grape: 100% Pinot Grigio. Sunset pink color. Some floral notes, tropical fruit. Crisp and dry with good acidity.

Sartori “Vigneti di Sella” Soave Classico, DOC
Grape Variety: 90% Garganega 10% Trebbiano di Soave.
Soft pressing with skin maceration for a short time at a controlled temperaure. Refining for 3 months in french oak barriques.
Delicate fruit aromas. Elegant, lush, smooth mouthfeel. Walnuts, Good acidity. The favorite white wine.

Cecchi “Litorale” Vermentino Maremma 2004 Toscana, IGT
Grape Variety: 100% Vermintino. The wine is fermented and aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Straw yellow color. Herbacious, tropical fruits, honey notes. Fruity with well balanced acids with crisp clean finish. A delightful aperitif. Marries with cheeses, fish and fowl.

Castello Montaúto Vernaccia di San Gimignano, 2005 DOCG
Grape Variety: 100% Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
Grapes are vinified 30% in barriques, part in stainless steel. Aged for 3 months in bottle for additional refinement before release. Luminous white wine with yellow-gold highlights. Hints of dried fruit and almond in nose. Mature fruit and spice flavors, complex, long finish.

Cecchi “Bonizio” Sangiovese di Maremma, 2005 IGT
Grape variety: 100% Sangiovese. Aged in stainless steel. Intense red color with rich fruit aromas. Rich cherry flavors on the palate with a hint of spice. Sweetness cuts through the tannin. Drink now.

Val delle Rose Morellino di Scansano Riserva, 2003 DOC
100% Sangiovese. Malolactic fermentation. Aged for 1 year in French oak barriques. Ruby red color, dark cherry aromas, spice, balanced, elegant. Excellent with pasta with meat sauce. Veal chops.

Villa Cerna Chianti Classico Riserva, 2003 DOCG
90% Sangiovese, 10& Canaiolo Nero and Colorino Tuscano. Fermentation of skins for 12 days, followed by 2 years of aging in wood casks and 3 months of bottle aging. Ruby red, Floral, scents of violets, Earth tones. Elegant with black cherry and tobacco flavors. Supple tannins. Soft, round and persistent.

Cecchi “Messer Pietro di Teuzzo” Chianti Classico Riserva, 2003 DOCG
90% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Maceration on the skins for 15 days, followed by gentle pressing and a second fermentation which begins the malolactic process. Aged for 14 months in French oak barriques followed by 10 months of bottle aging before release. Dark ruby color. Aromas of black fruit and earth. Well structured with deep plum flavors and spice notes and hints of wood. Elegant accompaniment with pasta dishes, red meat and strong flavored cheese.

Sartori “Vigneti di Montegradella” Valpolicella Classico Superiore, 2003 DOC
Grape Variety 50% Corvina Veronese, 40% Rondinella, 10% Molinara. Aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks. Ruby red with cherry fruit aromas and cherry fruit on palate. Supple and dry with a light velvety after taste. Perfect with salmon, pastas, grilled chicken and mild cheeses.

Sartori “Regolo” Rosso Veronese 2002 IGT
100% Corvina Veronese. Partially drying of the grapes in well aerated quarters. Slow fermentation with skin maceration for 20 days followed by aging in oak casks for 2 years. Final refining in French oak barriques for 8 months, followed by 6 months of bottle aging. Vivid garnet color. Intense fruit forward aromas. Dry and velvety with hints of cherry and dried fruits. A baby Amarone.

Cecchi “Spargolo” 2003 Toscana IGT
100% Sangiovese. From family owned vineyards in the historic Chianti Classico zone. Gentle pressing of the grapes in a slow, natural fermentation, followed by 14 months aging in French oak barriques. Further refinement in bottles for a minimum of 6 months before release.
Intense ruby red color. Hints of violet and wood aromas. Cherry flavors with wood notes and supple tannins. Elegant and well balanced with a dry finish. Tied for favorite red wine of the tasting.

Sartori “Corte Bra” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2000 DOC
Grape Varieties: 60% Corvina Veronese, 30% Rondinella, 10% Molinara.
Select clusters of hand–picked grapes are partially dried for several months following harvest in order to concentrate their sugar content. Traditional pressing and fermentation are followed by 4 years of aging in Slavonian oak casks and 12 months refinement in French oak barriques.
Intense vivid garnet color. Rich aromas of dried fruit, raisins and currents. Rich, velvety and full bodied with deep, dried fruit, ripe berry and plum flavors followed by a dry finish with cherry notes. Ideal with roasts, steaks, chops and aged cheeses. Tied for favorite red wine of the tasting.
