2002 Grand Cru and Premier Cru White Burgundy

2002 Grand Cru and Premier Cru White Burgundy

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Speaker: Harriet Lembeck, Wine Educator, President of Wine & Spirits Program

Cythia Hurley, wine columnist for France magazine said ” No matter whose reviewer's words you hang on - The Wine Advocate, The Wine Spectator, Decanter, La Revue du Vin de France - they all agree the 2002 white Burgundies are a must-buy. I can tell you without hesitation that 2002 bowled me over again and again. The wines are fleshy and lively with pure flavors that stay in your mouth. Remarkable!” We tasted 12 fantastic wines which proved this quote to be true.

We had one vote for favorite Meursault Premier Cru, one vote for favorite Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne- Montrachet Premier Cru and one votes for favorite Grand Cru. Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault “Genevrières” 2002 was the favorite Meursault. Michel Colin Deleger Chassagne-Montrachet “Les Vergers” 2002 was the favorite of Flight II and III. Louis Jadot “Corton Charlemagne” 2002 was the favorite Grand Cru. Prices are median New York area prices found on the web. All the wines were different and displayed the character of their vineyard, and the style of the wine maker. It was an amazing tasting of great wines.
